You said I wouldn't amount to anything
My story is like so many in these times
My dad worked for the Big 3
He got up at 5AM to provide for us
Instilling in me a profund work ethic and what it was to be a man
I have weathered many a storm to get where I am
A high school dropout with my share of problems
You told me I didn't fit and couldn't belong
Through the love of God and country
My wife and family have helped me throw my burdens aside
I stand tall with my shoulders back
Full of pride at who I have become
It wasn't always easy; It never is
But that makes it so much more important
Next time you see me
With a grin on my face and a beer in my hand
At my college graduation
Or fishing with my family
Just know I paid my dues
What I have become
You can never take away
My pride is with me till the day I die
It is oh so good to be me...
It is oh so good to be me...
